July 12 - When the chat's away ...

We started our day at Le Cafe des Chat. Yup - Cat Cafe.  Cat cafes first became popular in Taiwan and have slowly spread to other countries (at least ones with lax food safety laws).  This was the first cat cafe opened in North America and, since we didn't have Jack  w us today and he's 'allergic' to cats - we thought it a great time to try it.  Somewhat unbelievably, a cat cafe is a cafe that has a bunch of cats living in it.  You can pet them, watch them and generally commune with these feline friends.  There were about 10 and they were only marginally friendly but we all enjoyed a little kitty time!

Since the murcury was steadily rising to normal Montreal-in-July levels, we decided to beat the heat with a movie.  In keeping with the cat theme, we saw The Secret Life of Pets.  Fun.

After depositing the children off w Courtney, I did what I often do when Jack's away and it's date night - I went to play poker.  I figured that it would be interesting to see if it's any different than where I play; a little sociological research (I'll use any excuse).

The Montreal casino is impressive - big, loud, sparkly - just like I was transported to Vegas.  No free drinks though - which is probably for the best. There were no fewer than 125 ppl playing NLTH on a Tuesday night!!  Pete's can hardly get 2 tables going and this place had a wait list.  The action at the table was genteel.  Are Canadians too nice to really go for the jugular??  It's kill or be killed at the table ... everyone knows that.  I think I need another night of 'research' to fully develop this theory ...
