July 10 - Beaux Arts Redux and Comicon

Jack took Charlotte back to the to Fine Arts Museum to take advantage of their weekend kids programs.  He wanted to take advantage of the drop-in activity in the morning - making prints inspired by the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibit - and to make a reservation for the afternoon so all the kids could participate.

On our way to meet him, Jacqui, Natalie and I saw all the Comicon goers at the metro station.  Jacqui was calling out all the characters she was seeing (most of which I'd never heard of) and this gave me an idea.  After meeting Jack and Charlote for a quick lunch at the Burger Bar, I offered to bust Jacqui out of the art project and take her back to Comicon!   Needless to say, she was more than thrilled and I was happy to have some one on one time with her.  There has not been much of that on this trip.  This is my first 'con' of any kind (other than database conventions) so I wasn't sure what to expect but set off with an open mind.  Jacqui seemed nervous because she wasn't in costume so we set off looking for a Pokemon hat.  What we found was a thousand times better - a Rey (from the new Star Wars movie) costume complete with staff!!  Once she changed into that costume - she was unstoppable!    We chatted with 3 different Kylo Rens, played retro video games (hello Atari, my old friend) and took pictures with storm troopers!   She was even photographed for Teletoon's Facebook page!! Verdict: Best Mommy Ever!

We met back up with the art crowd and peeled off for date night.  This was the long awaited visit to Au Pied du Cochon - a restaurant lauded for its casual atmosphere but very sophisticated cuisine. The simplicity of the menu descriptions belied the truly innovative and beautifully balanced dishes placed before us.  It's no wonder that Anthony Bourdaine counted this and Joe Beef as Canada’s best and most Influential cultural ambassadors! We didn't have room for the pigs head stuffed with lobster or the pigs feet suiffed with foie gras but everything else we ordered came with foie gras - even the Poutine.  Jack was in heaven!
